They improvise without any previous structure, attentively listening to what the other person is doing.To listen attentively demands one to remain completely present at every moment, leaving aside any sense of purpose, evocation or precise direction. It also offers an ability to explore one’s own internal drive. But, in order to improvise, listening is not enough. One must construct at each instant, on the basis of listening attentively to what the other person is doing, representing, as well as one’s own process and structure.

It is essential to collect and bring together forms which are being proposed by the other, without ever drowning the other one out. Kandinsky once said that improvisation was equally dependent
